The Global Youth Anti-Corruption Network crowd-sources as much information available to it as possible on fighting corruption and affecting governance reform to arm its members in the fight against corruption. As such, you will find here a variety of toolkits written by GYAC, its members, and its partners. These toolkits will address all manner of transparency, social accountability, and governance reform related issues, insofar as they will address the specific concerns of those who developed them. This will provide you with a wealth of knowledge, tools, and innovative means of fighting corruption that we look forward to hearing about you putting into action.
If you are interested in sharing your work to help empower young leaders around the world to fight corruption with knowledge, tools, and innovative means they might not have had otherwise, you can do so by sending your material to the Communications Unit at info@voices-against-corruption.org. Help yourself and those around you to grow their impact on governance reform processes to make it better and more inclusive.
There are a lot of toolkits out there about how to get your projects started, implement them, and measure their impact. Few are specific to anti-corruption projects, though. This toolkit will help you kick start your project for fighting corruption and increasing your impact on governance reform. As such, you will find material in it specific enough to apply to anti-corruption work broadly, but that will be general enough for you to develop a broad variety of approaches for fighting corruption, specific to your vision and the context you work in.
One of the most effective ways for citizens and journalists to hold a government accountable is through Right to Information (RTI) or Freedom of Information (FoI) acts. This Toolkit provides step by step instructions to submit requests for information under the RTI law, using Nepal as an example. Additionally, it identifies potential problem areas applicants may encounter while seeking information and provides tips to tackle these problems. Using international examples, it illustrates how the Right to Information, along with strong investigative journalism, has helped expose hidden details regarding corruption and the abuse of power by government officials around the world, and catalyzed government action in response. The toolkit is now being translated and condensed into more user-friendly forms. It is the result of a series of in-depth discussions over the course of a year in Nepal and elsewhere—with civil society activists, journalists, academics and citizens—about the need for a document that clearly indicates how RTI or FoI Acts can be used most effectively.
