Abderrazak Morjani was born in 1981 and received his college education at Hassan II University, faculty of letters and Humanities in Casablanca, Morocco. In June 2004, he received his Bachelor's degree in the English language and literature and joined CPR, a Teacher Training Institute in Casablanca. In 2005, Mr Morjani was appointed as a teacher of English in a rural area in the south of Morocco and he has been teaching middle high school students (ages 14-17) since then. Mr Morjani has also been working as a teacher of civic education in a private School in Casablanca. He has been teaching history and civic education to elementary and middle school students since 2008.
In summer 2005, Mr Morjani received training in Project Citizen and Foundations of Democracy conducted by the Moroccan Center for Civic Education, and that was a turning point in his life. He became increasingly interested in history, promoting civic behavior and helping younger generations to be responsible, active and effective citizens committed to democratic values. Mr Morjani has attended a number of seminars on education for democracy. He has trained middle school teachers and has been implementing Project Citizen with his students since 2006. He has also trained elementary school teachers to do Foundations of Democracy and has been doing classroom observation to provide technical assistance in terms of implementing history and civic education programs.
Mr Morjani is deeply involved in civic engagement and social accountability issues in Morocco and MENA region and other different programs with the Moroccan Center for Civic Education such as Project Citizen, Foundations of Democracy, and an anti-corruption program. He is also involved in the English Access Microschoalrship Program (Access) which is funded by the American Embassy and in collaboration with the Moroccan Center for Civic Education to support non-elite students to learn English and participate in community issues (anti-corruption, leadership, cultural diversity).
After seven years of teaching experience, Mr Morjani feels that he has found his true vocation in life. He sees his job as not simply a career, but a devoted responsibility to promoting democracy, participation and good governance.
