Biography
Mr Kedar Khadka (1 Aug 1960), is a recognized person as a good governance & anti-corruption campaigner in Nepal. Mr Khadka holds position as President-GoGo Foundation, National Convener, National Coalition against-Corruption (NCaC), Vice-President, National Election Observation Committee (NEOC) and Vice-President, Human Rights Home. Mr Khadka holds Postgraduate Degree in Sociology and Bachelor Degree in Journalism from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. He has received advance course on Corruption & Anti-Corruption from Australian National University, Australia, Training of Trainer course from Netherlands and Diploma in Communication under Cheavening Scholarship from University of New South Wales, UK. Similarly, he has also obtained Civic Education: Informing the Public Debate in US Democracy course from USA & short courses from Thailand, Bangladesh and Srilanka.
His campaign through mass media and civic mobilization introduced him as an influential governance campaigner in Nepal. His anti-corruption campaign has recognized by the national and international media. Recognizing his untiring campaign against corruption for 20 years, he has been awarded National Investigative Journalism Award with cash prize by the Nepal Press Institute and also Rotary International, Kathamdu. Mr Khadka also received "Good Governance Promotion Award". Mr Khadka has contributed dozens of thematic articles through national media on good governance, anti-corruption & right to information. He has given numerous media interviews to the radio/television to promoting governance & right to information initiatives in Nepal.
He has worked closely with the Commission of the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) & National Vigilance Center (NVC) to reduce corruption since 10 years. Mr Khadka is Chairperson of the National Coalition against Corruption (NCaC). He has also contributed to establish National Chapter of the Global Organization of Parliamentarians against Corruption (GOPAC) in Nepal.
Mr Khadka has administered anti-corruption professionals/staffs & backstopped & supervised Projects funded by SDC, DFID, Asia Foundation, NDI, Norwegian Embassy, US Embassy & Canadian Cooperation. He has trained +8,000 good governance defenders/anti-corruption activists. More than 62,000 governance vigilant members are associated in his governance campaign all over the country.
Mr Khadka is an experienced development professional with decade-long experience in advocacy & civil society campaign for good governance, anti-corruption, public service delivery & capacity building, among others. He comes of a journalistic background & commands experiences of almost two decades in media advocacy & had worked as a presenter of "Ek-Aapash" a popular television talks-show broadcast through Nepal Television from January 1993-June 1998. He has also produced & anchored 250 episodes of TV program (Public Hearing) & has worked a resource person in dozens of capacity building trainings for government officials to enhance transparency, accountability & integrity in public service delivery system. His specialization lie in project management, grassroots & policy advocacy & sensitization, research, capacity building on good governance issues. He has pioneered the concept of Public Hearing, Public Audit and Citizen Report Cards for the first time in Nepal a decade back which has now been owned by the Nepal government bodies & development partner organizations at wider level as an effective tool to enhance transparency to hold the governments accountable toward the people.
Mr Khadka has contributed as Member-Secretary of the Whistle-blower Protection Bill Drafting Committee formed by the Law Reform Commission of the Government of Nepal. Mr Khadka has also advocated bringing Good Governance Act & Right to Information Act in Nepal. He also played a catalytic role to organizing nationwide signature campaign to pressurize to induct Codes of Conduct for parliamentarians in 2001. Mr Khadka has also served as a member of the Nepal Medical Council & also Doctor's Consultation Fee Fixation Committee formed by the Ministry of Health, Nepal. Mr Khadka has published several good governance, anti-corruption, Public Hearing, Public Audit, Citizen Report Card & RTI resource books, manuals, guidelines, directives & briefing papers. Mr Khadka presented presented country paper at the IMF/World Bank Annual General Body meeting in Washington in 2010 and Oslo Governance Forum in 2011. He has traveled more than 25 countries of the globe.
