December 25, 2010 (Kalika, Kaski): Under its regular Peace and Good Governance Program, Alternatives Nepal organized the Anti Corruption Seminar in Kalika VDC, Kaski on December 25, 2010. The objective of the Seminar on “Corruption and Youth Concern” was to motivate every youth toward anti corruption initiatives. All together 30 youth from Bhadrakali HSS, Janajyoti HSS, National HSS, Prithiwi Narayan Campus, Kanya Multiple Campus, Janapriya Multiple Campus representing different community and races participated in the program.
At the beginning inaugurating the program, Mr. Rebati Raman Lamicchane, Secretary, Kalika VDC, said, “The program should help to raise awareness of the young college students and rural youth on anti-corruption initiative, civic engagements, and promote active citizenship.”
Mr. Samundra Paudel,Founder/President, Alternatives, said, “This program will help on identifying the corruption issues and other obstacles of present day's youth and motivate them for the positive social action in coming days”. Mr. Ritman Gurung, President, Yuwa Forum, said that the program will help student to understand the different ways of corruption issues of Nepal.
In the program, Mr. Ashis Himali, Program Director, Alternatives ,involved participants on identifying the different ways of corruption and ideas to react against them. He also shared corruption as main pressing issues and obstacles of present day's youth and discussed the responsibilities of the youth towards this problems. On the seminar, Mr. Santosh Koirala, Program Associate, Alternatives participated students on Visioning Exercise where individuals prepared their vision for combating corruption in local level as well as they talked about the obstacles for their vision.
In the seminar, participants divided into four different groups, which developed as well as presented anti corruption action plan. At the end of the program, the enthusiam of participants showed that they are real change maker in the society. As well as they shared that, group activities in the program have increased their level of confident and committed to implement this action plan in near future. Miss Nanu Regmi, Past President, Student Welfare Committee, Kanya Campus said that the Seminar become fruitful for the students to act against corruption and to develop their leadership capacities.
The Anti Corruption Seminar was moderated by Shiva Paudel, Program Officer, Alternatives Nepal. On the local level, the program was coordinated by Kalika Community Development Center, Kalika VDC, Kaski.
