It has now been confirmed from the horse's mouth that Tanzania's government lacks political will in the fight against corruption.
In an exclusive interview with Masters in Laws students of the Tanzania German Center for PostGraduate Studies in Law yester at the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau in Dar es salaam yesterday, the Director General said, the only thing hindering him in his work is lack of political will.
He said when he took over the steering of the Bureau, his main aim was to build the capasity of PCCB and that today he can sit down satisfied as now the Bureau has offices in almost all districts in the country and he has employed more than 1,800 well trained employees over and above those employed by the office of the Director of Public Prosecution.
The confession of Dr. Edward Hosea, PCCB's boss confirm what wikileaks had earlier quoted him to have once said that Tanzanina's President Dr. Kikwete is in a way an impediment in the fight against grand corruption.
Other challenges on the body include lack of power to prosecute directly without seeking the approval of the Director of Public Prosecution-DPP and lack of cooperation by western countries in case of cross border investigation such as the BAE Scandal of UK.
