Youth Against Corruption Association PNG hold first 'Media Smart Youth Workshop'

Twenty one students participated in a week long Wake Up PNG! Media Smart Youth Workshop at the Public Information Center, World Bank Papua New Guinea from the 16th-20th April 2012.

The purpose of the workshop was for:

  • YACA members to understand the importance of the role of the media in a democracy
  • YACA members to use the mass media to disseminate information about and promote work/values/activities of YACA
  • YACA members to learn skills that will help them produce media products

The program was designed and facilitated by staff of the Transparency International PNG, with Guest Speakers from both the Electronic and Print Media in PNG, sharing their experiences and giving insight to their work in the media industry.

During the final day of the week long workshop, the students organized their first Press Conference and unveiled their media products, comprising of:

1. monthly YACA newsletter

2. quarterly YACA newspaper

3. YACA radio jingle

4. YACA tv ad

5. YACA Blog Site

The students were grateful for the workshop and are motivated to work hard at playing their part in the fight against corruption in PNG.
